Goals, Mission & Objectives of a TRA Member


Mission
To encourage healthy riparian systems within Texas.


Education
Goal: To promote statewide education on the health of riparian systems.
Objectives:
  • Promote seminars and conferences for education and outreach to members and non-members
  • Provide to landowners, businesses, schools and governments printed materials on sources of information, advice, and guidance on land use and growth impacts and riparian management
  • Establish a portable information and hospitality booth for outreach at conferences and seminars
  • Develop a TRA website with linkages
  • Support funding initiatives for internal and external outreach programs

Riparian Management
Goal: To promote actions statewide that conserve, restore, and maintain healthy riparian systems.
Objectives:
  • Advocate policy that promotes good management processes from state and local agencies and the legislature
  • Support specific riparian projects with consultation, advice and guidance
  • Develop and implement an awards program to recognize quality conservation, restoration and maintenance efforts
  • Establish a small grant program to encourage positive management processes

Research and Demonstration
Goal: To promote research and demonstration projects that foster improved systems.
Objectives:
  • Develop a database of known riparian projects, case studies, curricula, management processes, and references
  • Provide a professional forum for exchange of ideas
  • Develop a riparian resource library
  • Promote example of riparian restoration projects in Texas and support their implementation
  • Support funding initiatives from state/federal government and private sources

Future of the Association
Goal: To create a sustainable organization
Objectives:
  • Provide good value return on membership dues through reliable information sources, professional idea exchange, management idea exchange, newsletter, and riparian fieldtrips
  • Support the Board of Directors and committees with sufficient training, tools, and opportunities for personal and professional development
  • Encourage broad statewide membership of organizations and individuals
  • Develop and distribute a TRA brochure
  • Obtain sufficient funding from dues, donations, grants, and gift membership to operate the organization and its programs
  • Develop and maintain a positive public image
